Our next talk takes place on Wednesday 12 March at 7:30pm at St Teresa's Church in Beaconsfield (HP9 2PL).  The topic is '“Judge not that you may not be judged” (Matthew 25:36) - A Christian Response'.  The speaker is Sr Lilian Ehidiamhen.

The topic explores moralistic judgement as a form of communication that fosters enemy images and blocks compassion. A Christian response to situations that lead to judgement is the Gospel nonviolence, which promotes love of enemy. Love is nurtured by communication. This topic offers us the opportunity to explore nonviolent communication which provides skills for communication that promotes love and compassion instead of judging people’s actions. When people act, they are attempting to communicate their needs to us. However, the language human beings have learned to communicate their needs might be judgmental. Nonviolent communication supports people with language that could transform our communication from judgement to expressing needs in a nonviolent way.

Mary Lilian Akhere Ehidiamhen PhD, from Nigeria, is a member of the Congregation of Sisters For Christian Community (SFCC). She is a certified trainer on Nonviolent Communication with the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC), Austin, Texas, USA. She majors in Theological Ethics with specific interest in Social and Peace Ethics from the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, Belgium. Her research focuses on how Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can contribute to Catholic social teaching on peace. Her academic orientation involves paying attention to the experiences of people from their frame of reference (context) and its relationship to their belief system. This is realized through focusing on people’s needs and bringing them into dialogue with academics in an interdisciplinary manner. She is interested in contributing to the realization of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 16. She is currently teaching Religious Education at St. Ignatius College, Enfield, London.

A series of monthly talks on the Holy Scriptures, looking at their relevance to us in our lives today.  An initiative by the South Bucks Pastoral Area under the guidance of Fr Jerome Ituah OCD.

The aim of our sessions is to broaden our knowledge of and to discern the message the Scriptures hold for each of us and their relevance in our daily lives today.  Each talk will “stand alone” and will be given by an invited guest speaker.  We hope the sessions will offer guidance on reading the Scriptures and a prayerful and reflective time together.

There is no charge for the talks, but donations towards costs will be gratefully accepted.  You can make a contribution by cash (donation basket in the church porch), cheque made payable to "Saint Teresa’s Beaconsfield" with "Emmaus Donation" on the reverse, or by bank transfer per details below.
